What Is the PTE Academic UKVI Test Format?
The test format is exactly the PTE Academic format: about 2 hours on a computer at a test center, covering Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening in three parts. Part 1 Speaking & Writing runs 76-84 minutes with 9 question types, Part 2 Reading 23-30 minutes with 5, and Part 3 Listening 31-39 minutes with 8, for 22 question types in all. Those part ranges add up to 130-153 minutes, a little more than Pearson's "about 2 hours". Pearson's older scoring overview still says 20 question types, but its part pages list 22 since the 7 August 2025 update.

How Is the PTE UKVI Listening Section Structured?
The PTE UKVI Listening section is Part 3 of PTE Academic: 31-39 minutes and 8 question types, with each clip played once. Pearson gives these prompt lengths, and you can take notes on an erasable noteboard.
- Summarize Spoken Text: a 60-90 second recording, 10 minutes, a 50-70 word summary.
- Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers: a 80-120 second recording.
- Fill in the Blanks (Type In): a 30-60 second recording.

What Is in the PTE Academic UKVI Writing Section?
Writing in PTE Academic UKVI is scored from the same Writing items as PTE Academic, inside the combined Speaking & Writing part and the Listening part. Pearson's Score Guide names four tasks that build the Writing score.
- Summarize Written Text: one sentence of 5-75 words on a text of up to 300 words, in 10 minutes.
- Write Essay: 200-300 words in 20 minutes; under 120 or over 380 words scores zero.
- Summarize Spoken Text: a 50-70 word summary of a recording.
- Write from Dictation: one point for each correct word spelled correctly.

How Is PTE Academic UKVI Scored?

Pearson's UK thresholds sit at 30 for A2, 43 for B1 and 59 for B2. Integrated items count toward both skills they test, so Write from Dictation lifts Listening and Writing at once. AI scores every item, and seven of them (Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Respond to a Situation, Summarize Group Discussion, Summarize Written Text, Write Essay and Summarize Spoken Text) also get a human review of Content. The SELT URN on the report then lets the UK Government check the result directly.

Pearson sets fees by country and they change, so check the Last verified date at the end of the article before you pay. You can reschedule free while more than 14 full calendar days remain; cancelling earns a full refund before that, 50% between 14 and 7 days, and nothing within 7 days. Book the PTE Academic UKVI product, not standard PTE Academic, at an authorized test center, then focus your preparation exactly as for PTE Academic because the test is the same. Work through your UKVI booking in this order.

What ID Do You Need on PTE Academic UKVI Test Day?
PTE Academic UKVI follows Pearson's SELT ID rules, which accept more documents than standard PTE Academic but check them closely. Your ID must be original, current, carry your photo and match your booking.
- Passport: accepted everywhere.
- Before booking, confirm this requirement with the official test provider or receiving authority. On test day, follow your administrator’s instructions and any approved arrangements.
- BRP or BRC: a UK Biometric Residence Permit or Card, in and outside the UK.
- Travel documents: Convention or Stateless persons travel documents, in and outside the UK.
- EEA national identity card: in the UK and in the issuing country.
- Government photo ID card: only in the issuing country, outside the UK.

Is UKVI Easier Than IELTS?
Neither test is easier by rule; PTE Academic UKVI suits test takers who prefer a fully computer-based test with fast results. The practical differences show up in delivery, length and result speed.
- PTE Academic UKVI: about 2 hours, computer-based at a test center, scored 10-90, results usually within two business days.
- IELTS Academic: about 2 hours 45 minutes, scored in bands 0-9; IELTS lists results within 1-2 days on computer and 13 days on paper (7 in India).
